In his early teens YK Glizzy was facing multiple criminal charges before he made the snap decision to focus on music. Still in his mid teens, the unsigned rapper now spends most of his time in the studio. Grabbing the attention of rap fans with a mixture of his street-based lyrics, melodic vocals and catchy hooks.
YK Glizzy was born in Detroit in 2003 and moved to Toronto, Canada at a young age. He grew up in Oshawa, a smaller city located east of Toronto. He was rapping before he was a teenager and posted his first song online in 2017 but didn’t start building a larger audience before his break out single “Solo” was released in 2019.
The song was written the summer after he was expelled from two high schools and had spent almost a year on house arrest. By the end of 2019, YK Glizzy had over 40,000 streams and 9,000 listeners on Spotify.
As his singles continued to attracted more listeners, YK Glizzy continued to work on new music. Releasing “Serious Members” and “I DO!” in 2020 racking in over 130,000 streams on Spotify alone that year.
The following year and current year (2021) YK dropped his hit single “Gang Shit” followed up by another single “Double Dutch”. Today, “Gang Shit” sits at over 70,000 streams across all platforms. Making it his fastest growing single so far. YK has also been featured on Spotify’s editorial playlists ‘Northern Bars’ & ‘Hip-Hop Favourites’.
