Recording Artist: JSP (Jay Doodnauth)
JSP is a singer/songwriter from Toronto. Growing up listening to 90’s Hip Hop and R&B with a mix of Soca and Calypso he drew inspiration since early childhood from the likes of D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, and Shaggy. JSP has found a delicate balance between a lush and energetic cadence paired with an honest intimacy.
He designs his records to provoke the imagination with alluring emotion. His narration often details life’s intricacies and unapologetically lays out his own raw truth.
JSP was the lead singer in ROOM FOR 2, who’s lead single “See You In The Morning” captured an R&B/Hip Hop fusion with pop sensibilities, and the visuals directed by Karena Evans. Shortly after, JSP delved into film & made his debut as a director and writer for his short film “Perspective” in 2018, which gained federal recognition by the Government of Canada as a significant film highlighting mental health in minority communities. These themes cross over strongly into his music and the many unexpected moments that make life worth living. Since then, JSP has taken the last few years reshaping his sound and building a collection of records.
JSP’s intention is to create nostalgic environments while blending defiant cadences, blurring lines between traditional soul and new age R&B. Showcasing his vulnerability, he allows risk to take its own shape.
By providing soothing soundscapes & an influx of energy, JSP asks you to find comfort in the unknown, unfamiliar and unexpected.
