How would you describe yourself as an artist?

As a singer, string player, and producer, I like to say I have the ability to create a variety of genres. I love making remixes, sampling old records from vinyl, making House mixes, but also writing ballads, using my voice in Jazz, RnB, and Pop music. Songwriting is another passion of mine that I have used to work with other artists such as Meridian to insert myself into the narrative of someone else’s vision. As a listener to music from The Smashing Pumpkins to Diplo, I appreciate music beyond a genre, but as a journey to the fourth dimension.

I am from Fremont, California which is in the Bay Area! The music scene right now is obviously non-existent due to COVID-19, but I grew up on Electronic Dance Music, House music, and Rave culture in many senses. Being surrounded by San Francisco Rave culture, there were always artists such as Slow Magic, San Holo, and Odesza coming to the Bay. By the age of 12, I was a huge SoundCloud fan and finding new remixes and music was my way of understanding and delving into a variety of genres such as: Deep House, House, EDM, Techno, and Berlin and UK Garage.

As a person of color and woman who grew up in a STEM-based environment, I always struggled to find confidence as an artist and accept that this was my true passion in life. Considering that the entertainment industry is still not diverse enough, it is difficult to strive for a career that feels at times unreachable. Regardless, I have been playing the violin since the age of 5 and have spent the entirety of my life learning and chasing music in a technical way and from the perspective of pure love. Coming to college in Orange County, and surrounding myself with new people, I was able to go to concerts, learn to remix music, and find new genres from what my friends listened to. Outside of that, working for producer Mark Ronson definitely changed the way I value and think of creating music, sampling, and being a technically smart producer.
