“I am Blve. I was born in Germany but grew up in the states. I wanted to initially be a film director but my passion transitioned into music when I realized I was capable of making something out of nothing, in a room by myself. It was extremely fulfilling. I fell in love with the process, the idea that I can be someone else in my music. I realized I could inspire people like myself to do the same – to believe in themselves and make something of their lives – even if they felt it was on a mediocre path. I'm inspired by experimental unique music, as well as new-age trap music. Inspirations include MIA, Santigold, Debnever, Baby Keem, Grimes, Crystal Castles, Pierre Bourne, Playboi Carti, and Juice WRLD. I tend to blend high pitch autotuned vocals that feel ambient and euphoric, with more laid back hip-hop inspired flows. I've created my own style as a way to make sense of my life – having moved around for the entirety of it, and never having felt a sense of home or community.”
Tell us all about this new track of yours!
Duffle Bag is unique in that I blend a soft guitar instrumental often heard in melodic trap beats with an ambient and melancholic undertone. I'm super inspired by The Cranberries and I felt like I was channeling some of them in my vocals. The track deals with whatever I'm feeling at the time – during this I was moving into a friend's apartment after losing a job and playing with the idea of baggage. It's a fire track – it's different and relaxing.

Grimes – her music surprises every time and I love how inventive she is
Where are you from and what is the music scene like?
I've moved around my whole life but I'm currently residing in New York City and have been here for the longest, so it feels most like home. The music scene here is solid. I have friends in the underground hip-hop scene which is where I gravitate to. I'm trying to blend a hip-hop influence, with my nomadic perspective and wide range of tastes. Concert venues, warehouse parties, house music scenes – these tend to be where I make my connections and spend weekends. Pre-Covid, that is. I love the variety here. I have friends that are big into house music which is great for listening live. The energy at hip-hop spaces is unmatched too.
How have your life experiences influenced your music?
I never really had a sense of home. I never really fit in to particular communities because of it. At times, my family did well but I struggled to fit in with the upper-middle class shallow perspective of its people. And at other times, like after my parents split up, I would be sharing a one bedroom with two siblings and my father. It made me extremely close to my family but as a result, I never really affiliated with a town or its people. I always felt like an outsider because we would move due to my father's job. It made me fall in love with the arts because there, I could connect with the world and understand people. And I became obsessive. To the point where I felt I ran out of art to consume, and wanted to be the type of person to create art for others. To inspire, rather than to be inspired.
