Recording Artist: Brayden Cook

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Brayden Cook, I grew up in a little back woods no where town in the middle of butt fuck no where Texas town called Brady. I've been rapping since I was 13 years old when my biological mother played me Eminem's Recovery album. Cinderella Man being the first one I heard. I'm 24 now, but I remember writing songs at school on my papers, and getting caught by my step mom because I had left them in my pants or something, and getting the shit kicked out of me because of the cuss words, and the fact she hated Eminem, or really any rap at all. I had too basically had to hide the art I fell in love with for what seemed like my entire life, until I was just about to turn 19 years old. I ended up getting into an argument with her while her and my biological dad where going through a divorce, and walked out with nothing but the clothes on my back. My sister, Keylee, was living in Colorado at the time. I ended up moving up here with her after her own very long, fucked up, and heartbreaking story, and she helped me get back on my feet. I ended up buying a microphone around Christmas of 2017 after I did a cypher with Token where I rapped one of my own creations out loud for the first time in front of someone else. Ever since then I've had the confidence to keep putting my own tracks together, and though I may not be the worlds most fantastic lyricist and artist right now, I am very proud of the work I put in, and the progress I'm making. I think I have more potential to be great than a lot of people have and am more than happy and motivated to put in the work where it's lacking.

If you could reach any goal in 2021, what would it be?
Be heard. All I ever wanted was for people to hear my music, and judge whether they like it or not. I love the feedback, good or bad, and I like to make myself better because of it. The bigger the audience I have, the better. It means I'm working, and doing something right.

What is your greatest source of inspiration?
Eminem, Dr. Dre, Wutang, Tupac, Biggie, Method Man, Eazy E, Beastie Boys, NWA, Joyner Lucas, Token, Royce, Slaughterhouse, Afroman, Snoop, J. Cole, Kendrick, Meth, Wu-Tang, Yelawolf, Post Malone. The list goes on. My biggest inspiration though has to be Eminem as generic for a white boy as that sounds.

How have your life experiences influenced your music?
My life experiences are the main reason I'm making music. I hated my life growing up, I thought about killing myself everyday since I was 8, and until I fell in love with rap, I felt like that would be the only way out. It wasn't until I put my emotions into my pen that I finally found a way to vent. I didn't have anyone to talk to about the shit I was going through back then, so I had to write it all down and tell myself about it, hoping that one day I could share my experiences with everyone/anyone else that may be feeling the same way, and hope to spark something in them, or help them find a way out the way I did.
