Dynamite Sits on Top of Hot 100 for Second Week
K-pop super group BTS is back on top dominating the charts again. Furthermore, their recent single Dynamite is leading the Hot 100 for its second week. Last week the song debuted at the very top of the chart. The Hot 100 chart on Billboard sums up the totals of U.S. Streaming, sales data, and radio airplay for a definitive ranking for the most popular artist or band of the week. Additionally, last week’s number 1 makes the group the first all-South Korean artist or group to lead the chart.
BTS released the song Dynamite through a subsection of Columbia Records called BigHit Entertainment. In the second charted week for the song, it carried 17.5 million U.S. streams down 49% from a massive 33.9 million.  Additionally, Dynamite had a 31% decrease in sales dropping from 300,000 to 182,000. Most noteworthy, last week the song recorded the biggest sales week in 3 years since Taylor Swift’s “Look What You made Me Do”.  However, radio airplay impressions are up 38% to 16 million. All numbers are reported and tracked by Nielsen Music and MRC Data.

Other milestones the song has achieved are being the only song in almost four years to sell over 180,000 downloads in consecutive weeks. The previous song to accomplish this feat was The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” featuring Halsey in 2016. That song sold 208,000 one week and then 199,000 the following. However, for a debut, no other song has done it in its first two weeks since Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling!” in June of 2016. BTS has also reached a career high as Dynamite rises from 20 to 18 on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart. Keep an eye on the charts to see how BTS continues to do. They are certainly a powerhouse within the K-pop scene and are now making noise in the U.S. market.
