“My name’s Jay, I’m from York in the UK. I was a working stiff until the lockdown started and found myself without work. I know that sucks but it gave me a chance, the time, to actually work on my music again which I hadn’t done for a while. I’m an emcee but have always been part time just doing the odd gigs in clubs, battles etc. I started making music back in the day after being inspired by the emcees I grew up listening to. Public Enemy, KRS, Ice Cube, 2Pac (there’s way too many to list) Hip Hop always inspired me because it’s a story of peoples journey through life and what thy experience. It lets us walk in their shoes for a few minutes. I wanted to tell my story. As a gypsy in the UK we don’t really have any voices in hip hop. I guess I’m kind of unique and that inspires me also. Maybe the gypsy 2Pac or KRS is out there and if I could do something they’d realise they could do it too. Also, speaking bluntly, a bit of success might help put food on the table for my family.”
